New Trends in Ultrafiltration Membrane Development -- Ceramic UF Membrane

2026-02-14

Ceramic membranes are inorganic ultrafiltration membranes for water treatment developed based on traditional tubular and flat-sheet ceramic membrane technologies. These membranes are made from high-strength α-Al₂O₃ calcined at high temperatures, exhibiting excellent high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and superior mechanical strength.

Ceramic UF Membrane

Product Features:
1. Support body made of inorganic ceramic material - robust and durable, long service life.
2. Large single membrane column area and high packing area - high flux and high permeate.
3. Better chemical resistance - wide range of chemical cleaning conditions.
4. Membrane element channel 2-4mm - stronger SS tolerance and enhanced backwashing effect.
5. Proprietary flow channel design - optimal inlet and outlet water distribution, improving operating efficiency.

Washing method:
During filtration, separated substances and other impurities gradually accumulate on the membrane surface, causing pollution and clogging. Therefore, membrane cleaning is an indispensable operation in the ceramic UF membrane system. Effective membrane cleaning is an important means to extend membrane life. Membrane cleaning methods include physical cleaning and chemical cleaning.
For ceramic UF membrane, what usually used to backwash is physical cleaning method --- reverse cleaning by water & air (Operation: Cleaning water enters and penetrates the membrane from the water outlet, flushing towards the water inlet or concentrate outlet.)

Ceramic ultrafiltration membranes have become an irreplaceable or more advantageous choice in the following fields:

Food and Beverage Industry:
High-Temperature Pasteurization or Sterilization: Such as filtration and sterilization of milk and juice.
Alcoholic Beverage Clarification: Clarification of wine, beer, and spirits; can withstand frequent CIP (Cleaning in Place).
Dairy Concentration: Whey protein concentration, skim milk concentration.

Biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry:
High-temperature sterilization requirements: sterilization and pyrogen removal for water for injection, vaccines, and antibiotics.
Demanding cleaning environments: production lines requiring frequent cleaning and disinfection using strong acids, strong alkalis, and high-temperature steam.

Chemical and Process Industries:
Strong acid/alkali environments: Catalyst recovery, purification and concentration of strong acid and alkali solutions.
High-temperature organic solvents: Filtration and separation of high-temperature solvents in the petrochemical industry.
Nanomaterial separation: Ceramic membranes are inherently stable and do not react with many nanoparticles.

Environmental protection and water treatment:
High-difficulty wastewater: Treats difficult-to-treat industrial wastewater such as oily wastewater, emulsions, and electrophoretic paint wastewater; can withstand strong cleaning agents.
At the field of purifying material concentration and high-difficulty wastewater, ceramic UF membrane can work with the high-temperature (<95℃) and resistance of pH range from 2 to 12, which insure the good efficient.
