Excellent Anti-Corrosion GLS Aeration Tanks
description
Wastewater aeration conditions are high corrosive; Glass-Lined Steel (GLS) tanks have excellent anti-corrosion performance which are an ideal option for aeration tanks.
Glass-Lined Steel (GLS) tanks are fabricated with enamel panels, fitted with self-locked bolts and high-performance anti-corrosion sealant, and boast excellent anti-corrosion properties, making them perfect aeration tanks for wastewater treatment projects.
The Glass-Lined Steel (GLS) tank is a kind of bolted storage tank made from two materials: glass and steel. High-strength TRS (titanium-rich steel) plates and enamels are perfectly fused at high temperatures to form a highly inert inorganic glaze layer. This coating system has excellent anti-corrosion properties and is the best choice for tank.
Material Characteristics of Glass-Lined-Steel Tanks
-Low Carbon, High Strength, High Titanium.
The steel substrate employed in the construction of glass-fused-to-steel tanks is a special high strength enamelled steel with a unique design and superior properties. Its mechanical properties, including yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation, far exceed those of conventional steel sheets.

GLS tanks are preferred as aeration tanks for wastewater treatment for the following reasons:
● Excellent anti-corrosion performance against biogenic sulfuric acid, chloride and variable pH sewage, with a service life over 30 years.
● Smooth non-porous enamel surface prevents sludge and biofilm adhesion, stabilizes oxygen transfer efficiency an d cuts maintenance work.
●High abrasion resistance to long-term aeration water flow and grit scouring.
● Modular enamel panel design with self-locked bolts, short construction period, flexible volume expansion and reusable.
● Lower total life-cycle cost with minimal renovation and cleaning expenses.
Key Points for Material and Board Selection
● Enamel Coating Standards
Due to the highly corrosive nature of sewage aeration conditions, a specialized dual-layer, high-temperature enamel designed for sewage applications must be used, with an enamel coating thickness of ≥0.25 mm.
● Steel Plate Substrate
High-quality Q235-B carbon steel is selected for the substrate, with thickness matched to the tank height; the lower sections of tall tanks are thickened to withstand water pressure and the lateral pressure of the sludge.
● Comprehensive anti-corrosion accessory package:
Self-locking bolts: Hot-dip galvanized with anti-corrosion coating, or 316 stainless steel;
Sealant: Specialized polyurethane or butyl sealant for wastewater applications—resistant to microorganisms, acids, and alkalis (standard potable water sealants are unsuitable); ensures no swelling or cracking during long-term aeration;
Ladders, mounting brackets, and aeration piping supports: All treated with anti-corrosion finishes.
