    Description
CSTR (Completely Stirred Tank Reactor) is most suitable for treating organic wastewater and organic solid waste slurries that have high suspended solids, high concentration, high viscosity, or contain a significant amount of solid particles. The wastewater for CSTR requires high concentration of COD (Typically ≥3000 mg/L, with a typical range of 5000–30000 mg/L) and SS.
CSTR tanks require stirring, are highly corrosive, require biogas resistance, and are easy to maintain; enamel tanks are a perfect match.
The enamel tank is a kind of bolted storage tank made from two materials: glass and steel. High-strength TRS (titanium-rich steel) plates and enamels are perfectly fused at high temperatures to form a highly inert inorganic glaze layer. This coating system has excellent anti-corrosion properties and is the best choice for tank.

    — Low Carbon, High Strength, High Titanium.
The steel substrate employed in the construction of glass-fused-to-steel tanks is a special high strength enamelled steel with a unique design and superior properties. Its mechanical properties, including yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation, far exceed those of conventional steel sheets.

The Advantage of Enamel Tank for CSTR Anaerobic Digester
    • 1
Extremely corrosion resistant, suitable for complex anaerobic water conditions.
    • 2
Suitable for CSTR continuous mechanical mixing conditions.

CSTRs require full-tank mechanical agitation to prevent settling, crusting, and stratification. Enameled tanks offer excellent overall rigidity and high structural strength, resisting agitation vibrations and material erosion. Furthermore, the smooth inner wall of the tank prevents sludge and debris from adhering to the surface.

It can tolerate feeds with high suspended solids and high solids content.

CSTR specializes in treating livestock and poultry manure, kitchen waste, sludge, and high-SS organic slurry. The enamel inner wall is wear-resistant, smooth, and non-stick, allowing high-solids materials to flow smoothly and preventing stagnation in corners.

    • 4
It has good airtightness and is suitable for biogas collection in an anaerobic environment.

CSTR anaerobic digesters require strict airtightness and gas collection to prevent leaks. Enameled tank assembly with sealing strips and flange seals ensures excellent overall airtightness.

    • 5
Easy to keep warm and maintain a constant temperature.

Anaerobic reactions require a constant temperature of 35℃ for mesophilic reactions and 55℃ for hyperthermic reactions. The outer wall of the enamel-lined tank can be directly fitted with an insulation layer and an outer protective panel, simplifying the construction process.

    • 6
Quick to install, modular, and can be disassembled and expanded in different locations.

Enameled tanks are assembled from standardized sheet materials, resulting in a short on-site installation period. They can be expanded, relocated, and disassembled for reuse at any time.

    • 7
It does not grow biofilm and is easy to clean and maintain.

The glaze is dense and smooth, making it difficult for bacteria and sludge to adhere.

    Size: Φ16.04–16.8 m  |  Volume: 3500 m³

The pH entering the CSTR reactor must be strictly controlled between 6 and 9, the internal temperature must be maintained at 35 ± 3℃ (temperature variation must not exceed 3℃/h), and TAC ≥ 1500. Other substances toxic or harmful to the biodegradation reaction are prohibited from entering.

Design gas production capacity of CSTR reactor: 800 m³/d, actual operating capacity: 1100 m³/d.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
    Q
What types of wastewater is CSTR most suitable for treating?
CSTR is most suitable for treating organic wastewater and organic solid waste slurries that have high suspended solids, high concentration, high viscosity, or contain a significant amount of solid particles. It is ideal for influent with COD typically ≥3000 mg/L, with a common range of 5000–30000 mg/L.
    Q
Why are enamel (glass-fused-to-steel) tanks recommended for CSTR anaerobic digesters?
Enamel tanks are an ideal choice for CSTR because they offer extreme corrosion resistance, excellent airtightness for biogas collection, high structural rigidity to withstand continuous mechanical mixing, and a smooth non-stick inner wall that prevents sludge build-up — all critical requirements for anaerobic digestion environments.
    Q
What is the expected service life of a glass-fused-to-steel enamel tank?
Glass-fused-to-steel enamel tanks are designed for a service life of more than 30 years, thanks to the highly inert inorganic glaze layer that provides superior corrosion protection and durability under demanding operating conditions.
    Q
What pH range can enamel tanks handle?
Standard grade enamel tanks can handle a pH range of 3 to 11. For more aggressive chemical environments, special grade tanks are available that can withstand a pH range of 1 to 14, making them suitable for a wide variety of industrial wastewater treatment applications.
    Q
Can enamel tanks be relocated or expanded after installation?
Yes. Enamel tanks are assembled from standardized, modular sheet panels, which means they can be expanded, relocated to a different site, or disassembled and reused at any time. This flexibility significantly reduces long-term capital costs compared to traditional concrete digesters.
    Q
What temperature conditions are required for CSTR anaerobic digestion?
CSTR anaerobic digesters require precise temperature control. Mesophilic reactions operate at approximately 35℃, while hyperthermic (thermophilic) reactions require around 55℃. Temperature variation must not exceed 3℃ per hour to maintain stable microbial activity. Enamel tanks support easy installation of external insulation layers to maintain these conditions efficiently.
