Ceramic Ultrafiltration Membranes for Water Purification Solutions - China Suppliers & Factory
Description
Ceramic membrane is an inorganic ultra-filtration membrane made of Al₂O₃, used for water treatment systems developed based on traditional tubular and flat-sheet ceramic membranes. It effectively solves the technical defects found in traditional ultrafiltration membranes (Organic membrane — PVDF, PES, PVC) such as fiber breakage, membrane fouling, and membrane lifespan issues.
Its advantages of easy cleaning, long service life, high strength, oil resistance, strong acid/alkali resistance, and high flux make it a better choice for drinking water, food, and chemical industry applications.
It boasts high packing density. A single membrane column can achieve a filtration area of 12.5 – 24.5 square meters, which gives the module strong processing capacity while saving installation space. Its standardized and modular design allows vertical or horizontal installation like reverse osmosis frames, and it can be compatible with traditional organic membrane ultrafiltration systems, simplifying system piping arrangement.

The Difference: Ceramic UF Membrane vs. Organic Membrane
🏆 Ceramic Ultrafiltration Membranes
This filter membrane, made from inorganic ceramic materials through high-temperature baking, features high wear resistance, high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, long service life, and environmental friendliness.
It is particularly hygienic for use in the tap water, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

⚠️ Organic Ultrafiltration Membranes
These are filtration membranes produced from organic materials such as PVC, PE, and PDFE using a chemical sol-gel process. They are susceptible to damage from strong acids and alkalis, prone to peeling and fiber breakage, and have a short lifespan.
They are used in tap water, food, and pharmaceutical industries where aging of treated water may result in the precipitation of microplastic particles, causing micro-pollutants.

(PVC UF filter)
Ceramic UF membrane has its own advantages such as excellent high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and superior mechanical strength. Specially the big filter area while ensuring bigger treatment capacity compared with traditional membranes.
They effectively remove suspended solids, bacteria, and colloids, and can be applied in various fields such as domestic safe drinking water, municipal water supply and wastewater treatment, emergency water supply, water reuse, and industrial process wastewater treatment.
Ceramic ultrafiltration membranes have become an irreplaceable or more advantageous choice in the following fields:
🍶 Food and Beverage Industry
- High-Temperature Pasteurization or Sterilization: Such as filtration and sterilization of milk and juice.
- Alcoholic Beverage Clarification: Clarification of wine, beer, and spirits; can withstand frequent CIP (Cleaning in Place).
- Dairy Concentration: Whey protein concentration, skim milk concentration.
🔬 Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry
- High-temperature sterilization requirements: Sterilization and pyrogen removal for water for injection, vaccines, and antibiotics.
- Demanding cleaning environments: Production lines requiring frequent cleaning and disinfection using strong acids, strong alkalis, and high-temperature steam.
🏭 Chemical and Process Industries
- Strong acid/alkali environments: Catalyst recovery, purification and concentration of strong acid and alkali solutions.
- High-temperature organic solvents: Filtration and separation of high-temperature solvents in the petrochemical industry.
- Nanomaterial separation: Ceramic membranes are inherently stable and do not react with many nanoparticles.
🌿 Environmental Protection and Water Treatment
- High-difficulty wastewater: Treats difficult-to-treat industrial wastewater such as oily wastewater, emulsions, and electrophoretic paint wastewater; can withstand strong cleaning agents.
- Membrane Bioreactor (MBR): Used in municipal or industrial MBR projects requiring long lifespan and low maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q
What is a ceramic ultrafiltration membrane and what is it made of?
A ceramic ultrafiltration membrane is an inorganic filtration membrane primarily made of Al₂O₃ (aluminum oxide). It is manufactured through a high-temperature baking process, resulting in a material with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength. The membrane module shell is typically made of UPVC, stainless steel, or FRP.
Q
What are the main advantages of ceramic UF membranes over organic membranes (PVDF, PES, PVC)?
Ceramic UF membranes offer significantly longer service life, superior resistance to strong acids and alkalis, higher temperature tolerance, greater mechanical strength, and no risk of fiber breakage or microplastic contamination. They are also easier to clean and maintain compared to organic membranes such as PVDF, PES, or PVC.
Q
What industries can ceramic ultrafiltration membranes be used in?
Ceramic UF membranes are widely used across multiple industries including food and beverage (milk, juice, beer, wine), biotechnology and pharmaceuticals (vaccines, antibiotics, water for injection), chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as environmental protection and water treatment applications such as MBR systems and industrial wastewater treatment.
Q
How much filtration area can a single ceramic membrane column provide?
A single ceramic membrane column can achieve a filtration area of 12.5 to 24.5 square meters, providing strong processing capacity while occupying minimal installation space. This high packing density makes it ideal for space-constrained facilities.
Q
Is the ceramic UF membrane compatible with existing organic membrane ultrafiltration systems?
Yes. The ceramic UF membrane features a standardized and modular design that allows both vertical and horizontal installation, similar to reverse osmosis frames. It is fully compatible with traditional organic membrane ultrafiltration systems, which simplifies system piping arrangement and reduces upgrade costs.
Q
Can ceramic UF membranes handle CIP (Cleaning In Place) processes?
Absolutely. Ceramic UF membranes are specifically designed to withstand frequent CIP cleaning using strong acids, strong alkalis, and high-temperature steam. This makes them particularly suitable for industries such as food and beverage, dairy, and pharmaceuticals, where strict hygiene and regular sterilization are essential.
